UTILA AGGRESSOR gives you a decent shot at diving with, or viewing, the heart-starting whale shark.

Now our answer to the single question we are most asked, each season, about Bay Islands diving:

ARE THERE WHALE SHARKS to be SEEN while ENJOYING UTILA SCUBA DIVING ?

Three words: Yes, Many Seasons ...

However, when weather vagaries arise, & surface temps warm up, these beautiful & elusive creatures often flee for deeper thermoclines where the food they eat is found in greater concentration. It is the nature of the whale shark to sift plankton in cooler surface waters, just as balleen whale species do. Whale sharks normally do not favor steamy aquatic zones. Therefore we will never guarantee whale shark sightings on the UTILA AGGRESSOR; in the interest of good-faith consulting. These magnificent critters are rare all over the world. Let's face it; the certifiable magic of the whale shark is the established fact that they come & go as they please. Just like the wind & waves. When you're as big as the broad side of a barn with a gaping mouth that could swallow a jukebox, you are like the proverbial 900-lb Siberian tiger. "You sleep wherever you want ! " Therefore, if any resort or vessel markets their charms by trumpeting (with a straight face) , "Step right up, ladies & gentlemen; step right up & getch-yer whale sharks; whale sharks cheap & plentiful !" -- you'd best grip your wallet a little tighter & sprint in the opposite direction. Whale sharks have become unwitting "political footballs" of cheeseball marketing schemes in some island sectors of the scuba diving world. Like all our 4-star diving live-aboards, the UTILA AGGRESSOR is a Baloney-Free Zone. OK folks, that's settled. Now for a fun factoid to jog your imagination. Yes, Virginia, there have been whale sharks near Utila. Based on heart-pounding anectdotal info from past clients & sightings recorded by local islanders, remote Utila Island is as good a place as any on earth to spot these inspiring gentle giants -- random as they may be. It's all a roll of the maritime dice. Scores of dive groups have reported seeing whale sharks near & around Utila in recent years. They return home so pumped up that soon the Internet chatlines are buzzing for days. But chatline buzz does not denote a scientific behavioral study of whale sharks. Thus, how long this exciting phenomenon will last is Neptune's secret. We placed a couple calls but Neptune's secretary keeps us on endless hold ... All we're getting out of ol' Mr. Neptune is a stream of tiny bubbles & an inscrutable grin. And so it goes, amigos del mar ....

Ship's salon is a clean, cheerfully hospitable space, great after a big diving day.

One of the best things going for the Utila Aggressor now is the fact that its toughest competition, the Peter Hughes Wind Dancer, was moved shortly before Hurricane Mitch struck -- in the fall of 1998 -- up north across the Caribbean to Grand Turk. That means the only 4-star live-aboard now available for serious scuba divers, that's still plying the waters of Bay Islands, Honduras, is this brand-new live-aboard -- the Utila Aggressor. Another fun fact: the Utila Aggressor is a totally refurbished version of the previous Turks & Caicos Aggressor. When it comes to Honduras diving, if you need some live-aboard action, this is THE nerve center from now on, sports fans -- Utila island. The only game in town. Our esteemed friend Peter apparently has no intention of bringing the Wind Dancer back to Honduras, so it's a pretty easy liveaboard choice. And that choice is, you guessed it, Utila Aggressor.

The itinerary for this dynamic new Honduras live-aboard will be the Bay Islands of Utila, Guanaja, Cayos Cochinos, perhaps Roatan if weather permits.

You'll visit classic Honduras diving sites off both major coasts of Roatan, such as the deep sea fans & sea mounts of Enchanted Forest, & also "Grand Canyon." Then there will be the elusive caves & bright coral colors of Toon Town, a major dive site just off Los Cochinos islands. Other treats include the wrecks, tunnels & multi-hued virgin reefs off Guanaja island. The warm, calm waters of the Utila offer dramatic underwater grottoes, huge tube sponges & resplendent corals. These islands are still unspoiled, with a peaceful, turn-of-the-century historic flavor.

Some of the largest & most vibrantly colorful hard corals & sponges in all of the Caribbean region are found among the secret crannies in the Utila of Honduras. Underwater photographers will be delighted with Honduras diving aboard the Utila Aggressor. You'll have a wonderful time; especially knowing that this Honduras diving vessel offers one of the best-value live-aboard trips in the world. Compare this price, shop around & you'll see this is the best cost-buster the Aggressor Fleet offers. This yacht's top speed is about 15 knots.

Here's a thumbnail summary of the Aggressor Fleet & its 13 worthy vessels. All these live-aboard packages include 3 fine & filling meals per day + all the diving your heart desires for at least 5.5 days on a 7-night cruise (free tanks & weights included) + clean, spacious cabins + roomy salons & sundecks. All Aggressor Fleet vessels carry full safety gear, high-tech navigation equipment, powerful radios, hot freshwater showers, entertainment centers, plus personal gear lockers & video processing labs right on board.

All Aggressor Fleet yachts also offer large diving decks & wide ladders for easy entries & exits. No pile-ups here; so you'll spend your time underwater not topside, tapping your fin impatiently. The Aggressor dive vessels offer some of the world's best service & substantial bargains, in every country where their shining prows slice the Big Blue. Thousands & thousands of utterly satisfied clients must be saying something about the well-managed Aggressor vessels. Their safety record is top-notch; their commitment to quality on-board amenities & their courteous staff are outstanding, as well. These folks know their business; you'll love Honduras diving with the Aggressor Fleet. The Aggressors have honed their act, pure & simple. We bet you'll want to go back soon to try another one of the Aggressors!

HELPFUL BACKGROUND INFO re’ UTILA AGGRESSOR:

Divers will find the health of Utila's coral to be among the healthiest in the Caribbean.  Shallow coral gardens, steep, bottomless walls, virtually undiscovered banks & seamounts that rise from extreme depths, make for interesting & diverse topography.   Utila is also known for its incredible diversity of reef fish & macro critters.  As for big animal encounters, the whale shark is a well known visitor to these waters.

Best time of year for diving is the dry season (March through September) Honduras diving experts will agree.   October & November can be especially rainy many years.   But January & February are delightful diving months, & quite stable many years.   According to NOAA, the Atlantic Hurricane Season is officially June through November; however, this time period also has some of the best diving conditions in the Caribbean with calm seas & warm waters.  The best time to see whale sharks is February through May.

Topside Utila is generally flat with one hill called Pumpkin Hill.  Underwater however, one will find diverse topography suitable for beginners to the most seasoned divers. The south side of Utila is a gentle, shallow fringing reef, with colorful walls, & plenty of sand patches for "muck dives".  On the north side of the island, divers will find the deeper, steeper & more extreme walls & formations of Utila, with crack & swim through & walls that drop off to hundreds of feet.  The west end of the island is dotted with small picturesque islands called "Cays", & many shallow banks.  The entire island is surrounded by virtually unexplored sea mountains, some that rise from 500 ft to 40 ft from the surface.

The Utila Aggressor is built & powered for comfort, safety & stability.  She is diesel-powered, cruises at 15 knots & has 110-volt power on board.  Accommodations include 5 air-conditioned staterooms offering full & single berths & ensuite baths with hot freshwater showers, hair dryer, TV/DVD & port windows.  The sixth cabin, known as the “quad”, has four single berths with a private bath.  The Utila Aggressor sleeps 14 guests in privacy & comfort.  This wonderful scuba diving yacht features a roomy, air conditioned salon & dining area, sun deck complete with a hot tub, lounge & deck chairs, stereo & CD player, shaded wet bar & grill, a complete photo center with a digital video & still photo editing computer.  Diving amenities include Nitrox, individual dive lockers, camera table with low-pressure air hoses, & two hot, fresh water showers.

The menu on board Utila Aggressor is varied & plentiful, with a variety of American feasts, barbecues & local cuisine.  Wake up to fresh fruits, hot entrees, cereals, & juices. Lunches are buffet-style, featuring hot soups, homemade breads, salads & sandwiches and/or entrees.  Dinners are diverse, including seafood, beef or chicken. Each evening, enjoy fresh homemade desserts.  Please notify our office of special dietary requests as well as speak to the ship’s Chef after boarding.

Soft drinks, ice tea, beer, & wine are complimentary.  We suggest you bring your favorite brand of liquor from the U.S. or pick-up some at the last duty-free port before entry into Honduras.  Remember, drinking & diving DO NOT EVER mix.  Once you consume alcohol, you become a non-diver until the next day.  Absoluto, amigos.

While aboard, dress is very casual.  Days are warm, bright & sunny. However, evenings can be cool.  We recommend packing a sweatshirt or windbreaker.  For easy luggage storage, we suggest packing in a soft duffel bag.  There is a variety of nightly entertainment, including diving, fish identification slide shows, movies, games & more…  The crew especially loves new releases of DVD movies, music CDs, recent magazines & books. Feel free to bring along your favorites.

The crew of the Utila Aggressor, with their unique combination of talents, offers the ultimate service.  While on board, you may pick a buddy of your choice, or dive with one of the crewmembers.   There is ample storage space for your diving equipment in your personal locker.  The Utila Aggressor provides 80 cubic ft. tanks, weight belts & weight.  The stern & platform area are spacious.  The boarding ladders were designed for convenience to allow divers easy entries & exits.  Enjoy two fresh hot water showers on the back deck after your dives.

IMPORTANT REMINDER about PRICES & TARIFFS:

All Honduras diving package prices listed here are subject to possible change in this steadily evolving travel market. Lodging, side tour & diving prices are traditionally stable, as are live-aboard package prices; however air prices can fluctuate daily. Until air tickets are issued, all airlines reserve the right to change airfares without notice -- an industry standard per FAA rules. Remember please, the federal government has deregulated all U.S.-based airlines, so only they control their pricing -- not any travel professionals. Early is good when seeking the best air ticket rates for your Honduras live-aboard tour.

Unless specifically noted, these above Utila scuba diving packages are prices for only the live-aboard portion of your dive trip, in most cases reflecting double-occupancy rooms. On this Honduras live-aboard, there will be no triple-occupancy staterooms offered. International air tickets & commuter "island-hopper" seats are always extra above these land costs. Nominal service fees are also extra for air tickets & the dive vessel + side tour components. The baseline tariffs for all clients start at $45 per person for the vessel portion + $35 pp for the air tickets. Late-booking clients for this Honduras live-aboard may receive slightly higher tariffs on the lodging + diving at many of our dive resorts. Solo clients on this beautiful Honduras live-aboard always will pay a single supplement to secure a private stateroom -- normally 50% more -- unless you agree to twin-share a stateroom with a randomly-paired diver of the same sex.

The preferred payment mode for all of this Honduras live-aboard, & for any Utila dive resorts, side tours & air ticket specials is by cashier's check or wire transfer in U.S. dollars. All Honduras live-aboard clients living outside the USA or Canada will need to pay for their dive vacations via direct wire transfer only. No personal checks will be accepted for the Utila live-aboard or land portion of any reservation. Thank you for your gracious understanding. Our service level is the highest & our prices the lowest in this industry, & thus we need to preserve a reasonable margin. For published-fare air ticket bookings, USDT always accepts Visa & Mastercard. For discount wholesale air tickets, USDT accepts only cashier's checks or wire transfers, please.

Now, if you feel the need to gather more details about any of these scuba vacation topics -- Utila Aggressor, Utila diving, Aggressor Fleet, Honduras live-aboard, Honduras liveaboard, Honduras diving, Honduras live-aboards, Honduras liveaboards, Bay Islands diving, Bay Islands live-aboard, Bay Islands liveaboard, Guanaja, Utila, Cochinos -- please do not be shy, we are here to serve -- & you may call us any time at 952-953-4124. Our travel planners are experienced in the whys & wherefores of all these subjects -- U.S. Dive Travel, Utila Aggressor, Utila diving, Aggressor Fleet, Honduras live-aboard, Honduras liveaboard, Honduras diving, Honduras live-aboards, Honduras liveaboards, Bay Islands diving, Bay Islands live-aboard, Bay Islands liveaboard, Guanaja, Utila, Cochinos.

Remember, all Honduras live-aboard dive vacation clients to all foreign destinations will be asked by local officials overseas, upon departing the airport on your final day, to pay a nominal government departure tax, usually between USD $35 - $45 per client. USDT cannot collect this tax beforehand, so you simply pay it down there, in your host country. Be sure to stash away a little cash for this final moment at the airport, so you'll get your exit visa stamped quickly with no fuss; & away you go. Best of luck with your dive travel plans. We hope your Honduras scuba diving vacation is a safe & satisfying adventure. Blessings & best wishes with ALL your Utila live-aboard holidays.

Best fishes too!
